Nitrous Oxide

It is commonly called "Laughing Gas". It gives many people an opportunity to be in the dental chair with unusual noises around them and not care. The time passes much more quickly for the patient. It allows us to get a significant amount of procedures done on kids without our other options. There is no charge for the Nitrous. We offer nitrous in each of our treatment rooms, even for routine cleanings. It adds three minutes to the appointment and the FDA says you can get in your car and drive home when you’re finished. It’s a very safe and effective means of controlling anxiety.

Oral Sedation

We offer many different protocols of oral sedation to suit your needs. Protocols are different for adults and children. The protocol that is best for you depends on the length of your procedure(s) and your level of anxiety. Oral sedation is not designed to put you to sleep. However, often times people do fall asleep during the procedures. Another very nice aspect of oral sedation is the amnesic effect it has to an individual. People often do not remember any part of the visit. Ionia Family Dentistry will recommend the best protocol to you.

I.V. Sedation

Ionia Family Dentistry also offers I.V. (intravenous) sedation. It is a deeper and more profound sedation than oral sedation. It is typically used for impacted wisdom teeth or multiple extractions, but can be used for any procedure. We have the trained staff and the necessary monitoring equipment on site.
