Extractions

There are times when it is necessary to remove a tooth. At Ionia Family Dentistry most extractions are performed on site, as is any follow up care that needs to be provided. Many sedation methods are available to choose from. The procedure is usually surprisingly quick and pain-free.

There are many reasons for extractions. When a baby tooth has long or misshapen roots that prevent it from falling out and the permanent tooth is becoming affected, an extraction may be necessary. At other times, a tooth may have so much decay that it puts the surrounding teeth and jaw at risk of more decay, so Dr. Swartz or Dr. Wong may recommend removal and replacement with a bridge or implant. Chronic infection, orthodontic concerns, or problems with a wisdom tooth can also require removal of teeth. Most people want to stay with Ionia Family Dentistry’s familiar faces for these procedures, but if you would like a referral to an oral surgeon it will be given.
